Daler Mehndi Joins BJP, Days After Actor Sunny Deol

Singer Daler Mehndi joined the ruling BJP today, becoming the second celebrity to join the party this week after actor Sunny Deol.
Daler Mehndi joined the ruling party in the presence of fellow singer Hans Raj Hans, who is a BJP candidate in Delhi.
It is not clear whether the singer will contest the national election.
Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari and cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir were also present at the event when Daler Mehndi joined the party.
Daler Mehndi had in 2013 joined the Congress, just before the Delhi assembly election. He had also composed and sung a campaign song for the party.

A few days ago, Bollywood actor Sunny Deol joined the BJP in the presence of several Union ministers, including Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goyal. The same day, singer Hans Raj Hans was named the party's candidate from the North-West Delhi constituency.
Earlier, another Bollywood actor, Urmila Matondkar joined Congress, who has been fielded from the Mumbai North.

Ramdev's U-Turn: Backs Narendra Modi As PM Again With 'Vote For BJP' Call

Yoga guru Ramdev today gave a fresh endorsement for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a move seen as a U-turn from his position a few months ago. The 53-year-old, who accompanied Union minister Rajyavardhan Rathore as he filed his nomination for the Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha seat, called on people to vote for the BJP in the national elections.
Highlighting the BJP's focus on nationalism and national security, the yoga teacher sought a stronger mandate for PM Modi, whom he once termed his "close friend".
"To make India a world economic and political superpower in next 20-25 years, we have to make Modi stronger. In his hands, the country is safe; the future of our jawans is safe, honor and respect of women is safe and farms of farmers are safe," Ramdev said.
PM Modi is the only one who can protect the nation, Ramdev, said, calling the prime minister "the pride of Bharat Mata".
He also targeted the Congress party over its basic minimum income scheme, NYAY. "Now is the time to punish them. 'Nyay' will happen now at every booth and will be delivered by the public. Voters will do justice now," Ramdev said.

Actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar on Thursday took a savage dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he didn't deserve a biopic as he failed to deliver anything like the head of the government. Ms. Matondkar, who is contesting the national election in Mumbai North as a Congress candidate, further said a comedy film should be made on the PM.
"The biopic made on his (PM Modi's) life is nothing but a joke as the prime minister, who claims to have a 56-inch-chest, has miserably failed to deliver anything. The movie made on his life is a joke on the democracy, poverty, and diversity of India, which has been damaged," Ms. Matondkar quoted.
"Rather, a comedy film should be made on him and his unfulfilled promises," she added.
